In cosmetics, silicone contributes to a smooth surface or texture and improves lubrication.
Silicone implants have received a lot of attention in the press over the years because they have led to the development of silicone allergies. But there are no reports on the development of allergies when silicone is applied to the skin and does not enter the body, as such.
Consequently, both Asthma Allergy Nordic and AllergyCertified allow silicone in cosmetics. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel also allows silicone with two exceptions:
D4 (Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane) and D5 (Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane), as they have a negative impact the environment.
