What role do nanoparticles play in skin care products?

A nanometer corresponds to 1/ 1,000,000 of a millimetre. Nanoparticles are the name of the tiny particles in the size 1-100 nanometers. Some products have ingredients that are developed using nanotechnology, meaning they will consist of nanoparticles. Nanoparticles are used, for example, to help ingredients in creams to quickly penetrate the skin.

If you want to avoid ingredients in nano form, check a product’s list of ingredients where the word (nano) appears afterwards, such as titanium dioxide (nano).

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel allows the use of nanotechnology but Ecocert COSMOS does not and it does not exist in any Derma products.
